Dalnaglar
Castle and its surroundings
In Dalnaglar Castle you can feel the positive energy of this mystical
place. Though built
by human beings the marvellous snow-white castle seems to be a genuine
part of its wonderful wooded surroundings full of the magic of untouched
nature. It´s also the place where romantic tales of fairies, elves
and friendly goblins arose from ...
Dalnaglar Castle is set on a beautiful naturally elevated site in the heart
of Glenshee, which translates as 'The Valley of Peace' and is known locally
as 'the fairy glen'. Originally an 18th century hunting lodge, Dalnaglar
Castle was commissioned by Lord Clyde, Queen Victoria's banker, and designed
by Her Majesty's architect from Balmoral Castle. This Victorian
Castle is let as a whole and each party of guests has exclusive use of
a beautiful house with inclusive service.
Let us invite you to a pleasant walk through the wooded hills and glens
that surrounds Dalnaglar Castle and get inspired by the magical beauties
of the Scottish Highlands like the "Black Mountain" which is close to the
castle or enjoy a romantic picnic on the shores of the loch within in castle
area.
The
castle
property contains a very big area covered by old untouched woods penetrated
by the nice Shee Water. Marked paths lead through them just waiting for
you to walk on them. The entrance to the castle grounds is closed for the
public. Intimacy and seclusion create the ideal atmosphere for thorough
recreation, an unforgettable wedding or a successful seminar.
Dalnaglar Castle has recently been extensively refurbished to give the
complete combination of 21st century facilities and conveniences, including
computerised heating and plumbing, while retaining the character of a spacious
stately home. The residence has 9 well-appointed en-suite bedrooms
for 18 guests and further modernised accommodation available in the four
cottages within the castle grounds for a further 20 visitors.
Let the Victorian charms of Dalnaglar Castle overwhelm you! No room is
similar to another! You will have to get accustomed to this labyrinth of
stairs and corridors discovering new interesting features like precious
paintings and furniture almost everywhere. Yes, it´s right! You can
feel yourself at home like the owner of the castle as long as you remember
that you are not the real owner.
The whole property including the very comfortable and elegant drawing room
and the well-stocked library is at your disposal if your group contains
at
least 8 persons. Meals are freshly cooked. You can enjoy them in the
festive dining room and discuss important matters in the library afterwards.
Another advantage is that you have both accommodation and seminar rooms
under the same roof and don´t have to leave the castle to go to sleep.
You see, as long as you have booked for a certain date in time, it is no
problem at all to even celebrate an intimate small but princelike wedding
within the castle walls.

the cottages within the castle grounds there are no group restrictions.
Everybody (single persons too!) is welcome to rent one of the following
cottages:
Dalnaglar Cottage Wester
Caiplich Crowhill Cottage
Dalnaglar
Cottage

Dalnaglar
Cottage provides living accommodation for six people. Arguably the most
characterful cottage on the estate it benefits from 4 bedrooms (two single
bedrooms as well as a double and twin room) - ideal for families with children
who would rather not share a room!! Recently modernised, Dalnaglar Cottage
benefits from oil-fired central heating and double-glazing enabling guests
to stay warm even in the chilliest weather.
The entire cottage has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard.
The front porch area provides ample hooks to hang coats, hats and other
paraphernalia as well as being the ideal place to keep you wellies and
walking boots. The main living accommodation consists of an open plan sitting
room, kitchen and dining area allowing families or friends to socialise
whilst meals are prepared. This large room benefits from an efficient wood-burning
stove providing an additional source of heat as well as a charming focal
point. A bookshelf houses a selection of books, jigsaws and playing cards.
The kitchen
area, although on the small side, is well equipped with a fridge (with
integral freezing compartment), oven/hob, automatic washing machine, microwave,
toaster and electric kettle.
The bathroom benefits from a power shower over the bath as well as a razor
point and heated towel rails. A walk-in drying cupboard is located off
the twin bedroom allowing clothes to be dried inside should the weather
take a turn for the worse during your stay. As with all the cottages a
kettle barbeque is provided as well as garden furniture allowing guests
to make the most of all alfresco opportunities. The price of the accommodation
includes all heating, electricity, bed linen and towels. Ironing facilities
are provided as well as a hair dryer. A cot and highchair can also be provided
at no extra cost (subject to availability). Pets are also welcome - provided
that they are kept under control at all times.

note that, as with all the cottages on the estate, Dalnaglar Cottage has
been designated as a "No Smoking" cottage. We would ask you to comply with
this request in the interests of all our guests.
Tower Cottage
The Tower Cottage is very spacious and is situated next to the castle. It is suitable for 6 persons. In the entrance hall is a little sitting room which is at the same time a dining room too. Some steps lead up to the comfortable living room featuring a big prominent fire place. The living room can be easily changed into a bed room for two persons.
The two bedrooms are on the first floor. One has a double bed, the other two single beds. In addition the cottage also contains a new and modern equipped kitchen with a toaster, a refrigerator with freezer, micro wave, stove, extractor and water heater. There are two bathrooms, one on the first floor (bathtube and shower, WC, wash basin) and one down on the ground floor (shower, WC, wash basin). Enjoy the quiet and idyllic surroundings on the terrace of Tower Cottage which is easlier reachable from the living room and containing camping table and chairs.
Tower Cottage is particularly suitable for families!
The accommodation in this cottage is based on self catering. You will find towels and bedclothes. Please bring everything else with you!
Crowhill Cottage
The brandnew restored and furnished "Crowhill Cottage" does not stand in the castle grounds. You can find it about 3 miles from Dalnaglar and about 9 miles from Blairgowrie. The owners are very nice and always eager to help. They are living in the neighbouring house. Beside this house there is only a farm house in this aera that is only occupied at weekends. You have to take a narrow forest road for about one mile before you reach the cottage. In the vicinity there is another castle called "Blackcraig Castle". Some 3 miles away is "Bridge of Cally" where you can find a pub, the post office etc.
Crowhill Cottage has two bedrooms (one double bed and one double bed plus one additional bed). It provides accommodation for 5 persons at the same time.
The living room is equipped with SAT-TV, Video, DVD and a little electric organ. In the wonderful furnished kitchen you will find a washing machine, a dish washer, a big refrigerator, a bread cutter und much more!
Accommodation with self-service. Parking place, towels and bedding available.
Our
big range of avitvity offers
Our expert staff will be more than happy to arrange the leisure interests
our guests may require. A comprehensive range of activities associated
with Highland Scotland is available. Just read on or make an enquiry to
get all details or to book them.
While we have clay pigeon shooting, air guns and archery available for
warming up the experienced shot, or as a 'have a go' for the complete novice,
there is also the opportunity to travel 30 minutes through beautiful scenery
and empty roads to a nearby family-run country sports venue which offers
sporting clay pigeon shooting, quad bikes, archery, reverse steer Range
Rover, air pistol range, 4x4 Landrover and abseiling/climbing. For the
children there is a purpose-built activities centre within the glen that
offers individual and small group activities of climbing, archery, abseiling,
air guns, a tree climb and rope ladders as well as orienteering.
You too can go fishing.
We have
salmon
fishing on a mile of the Shee Water, which is a tributary of the Tay, and
borders part of the Estate. The season runs from mid January until the
beginning of October. If you would like knowledgeable help, (much recommended
as salmon are clever creatures!) our Ghillie is also available and can
assist up to 3 rods. Salmon fishing rods are available to hire for use
on and off the Estate.
Brown
trout are plentiful in the scenic estate loch which is surrounded by
enormous Douglas Spruce. Some very big fish have been caught and the loch
has not been fished heavily for a number of years. You are welcome to fish
with or without the boat, the cost per rod per day is £25. Our Ghillie
is available to assist. Rods and flies can be hired from the Estate.
Hunters are also welcome..
Offering driven
and walked-up shooting we have
an extremely high quality and welcoming shoot offering all types of driven
and walked up game within the Estate, including partridge, pheasant and
duck. Accomodation for either driven or walked up shooting can be within
the castle or cottages. As always, we are happy to arrange this for you,
or alternatively can help suggest and put you in contact with the relevant
people within easy travelling of Dalnaglar Castle.
If you like stalking red stags are available
in September - this is the best time as they have no velvet on the antlers.
Roe Buck stalking is available from April until October. Hinds/Roe Does
are available from the end of October until mid February. This makes for
very demanding stalking and is much under estimated.
We are able to offer
Harris Hawks and Red Tailed Hawks which clients can fly to rabbits in Dalnaglar
Castle parkland. In addition, we can offer the opportunity to see and handle
Owls, Kestrels etc. An amazing opportunity to try something new or improve
on skills you may already have.
Please
email
for rates and prices, depending on your requirements.
Enjoy a real unsual skiing adventure!
The Estate
is 8 miles from the Spittal of Glenshee ski resort, and within easy reach
of fabulous sightseeing and a multitude of other activities. This way the
castle and cottage accommodation not only is of particular interest for
the hunter, walker, angler and climber but also for the passionate skier.
Or perhaps you want to play golf?
Our local
courses are: Braemar (the highest course in Scotland, and possibly
the most breath-taking, with the Cairngorm Mountains rising up each side
of the course), also the Championship course at Rosemount and Blairgowrie,
or the smart professional course at Glenisla. In total there are
over 100 golf courses in the surrounding area including Gleneagles
(90 minutes) and St Andrews. We are happy to make any arrangements
you may need for your golfing needs.
Don't
forget, Dalnaglar isn't just for those in pursuit of sport, but also for
anyone who wishes to explore the wonders of rural Scotland and relax in
exquisite surroundings, away from the strains of every day life. Please
